Announcing collaboration between renowned artists Beatrix Ost and Michelle Gagliano:

Artists Beatrix Ost and Michelle Gagliano are collaborating on a body of work in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic. Inspired by the differing narratives in one another’s work, the artists aim to listen and respond to each other, similar to the “call and response” arrangement found in jazz music. The culmination of their collaboration will result in multiple works created together, using a variety of materials including oil paint, pigments, natural solvents, and handmade gessoes, as well as their individual work juxtaposed and exhibited together (see photos below).

Conscious of how few female artist collaborations there have been in the past 50 years, Gagliano and Ost are excited to have a “conversation” through the shared canvas as well as through their individual pieces. While Ost’s work invents profound worlds that illuminate the human condition, Gagliano’s work creates a sense of place and displacement through abstracted landscape. The combination of the two narratives will forge a path where abstract meets surrealism and where the artists find a connection on the canvas.

For the last ten years, Gagliano has practiced from her studio in central Virginia where the surrounding farmland echoes the farm of her childhood, with the four seasons of Virginia showcasing the transient quality of nature that drives her continuous experimentation and dedication to her art. Gagliano’s resume includes completed residencies at the prestigious Chautauqua School of Art and Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She’s participated in solo exhibitions as well as curated group shows throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia and is represented by the following galleries: Angela King Gallery, New Orleans, LA; Chroma Projects Art Laboratory, Charlottesville, VA; Elisa Contemporary Art, Riverdale, NY; La Nica Galleria, Rome, Italy; Artelier, London; Laura Rathe Fine Art, Houston and Dallas, TX, Whistler’s Creative Contemporary West.

Beatrix Ost is an artist, writer, fashion designer, and ambassador of peace. She has also written screenplays, produced movies and theater, and acted in films and on the stage. When she arrived to New York from Germany as a young adult, she quickly became an art and fashion icon - and has remained an influential and acclaimed luminary in both worlds. Beatrix’s resume includes a residency at New York Academy of Art, solo exhibitions at Second Street Gallery, Les Yeux du Monde, Torosiete Contemporary Gallery of Art and various galleries in Europe, as well as several group exhibitions at New York Academy of Art, Second Street Gallery, and University of Virginia Bayly Art Museum, to name a few. She currently splits her time between Charlottesville, Virginia and New York City.
