Trickery

"Trickery" is a meditation on the tricks life plays, not only through aging but also through the creatures we live with. As the old dog of humanity learns the new tricks of technology, the humanisation of animals and the dehumanisation of man proceed in parallel.

In "Trickery" the smell of beeswax and the humming of the bees fill the room. Their repetitive sound evokes our society's evolving bioelectronic nervous system. They must produce Manuka honey from the New Zealand tea tree to replace the physical antibiotics which have lost their effectiveness. They must create a new mental antibiotic.

This we need because the blending of species is conspicuous not only in the biological realm. We are acting out the surrealist dialectic. The archetypal creatures within the unconscious are surfacing into the light of personality. Will we redeem the inner Superman, or succumb to the demons of a Michael Jackson? Which do we really want? Obsession with imagined defects? Excessive love for our dog's features? Or the deeper truth?

In Tibetan cosmology all existence is intertwined. As we and our neighbours in the Great Chain of Being make up our minds, time plays thief, trying to steal away our lives before completion. At our peak we are James Dean, setting the tone of a whole era merely with his youth, with the rakish angle of his hat. But beneath the hat burns the crown chakra, atop the central channel. As liberation proceeds, the energy pouring through the channel melts away the conventional garb of sentient beings, leaving only a shaft of clear light.
